1. What is a clash detection
A clash is the result of two or more elements in your design taking up the same space. Clash Detection is the technique of identifying if two or more parts of the building are interfering with one another. There are three types of clashes:
- Hard Clashes – Physical geometric interference
- Soft Clashes – Inadequate geometric tolerance for maintenance
- Workflow Clash – Not an object clash but as a result of inconsistent or conflicting building information

Clashes occur due to uncoordinated design development phase between disciplines
3. Detecting and resolving clashes
We use several clash detection softwares to facilitate 3D coordination between disciplines and generate clash detection reports by identifying and addressing areas of conflict.
4. Benefits of Clash Detection
Various disciplines like structural and MEP engineers use the architect´s model as a starting point to produce their own independent model, to avoid clashes during design development phase. The benefits of clash detection on coordinated models is:
- Reduction in errors, costs, material waste and risk
- Improvement in scheduling and sequencing
- Increase in productivity
- Safer construction site due to accurate estimates
The models and data created by various disciplines can be integrated into a master model or in common data environment for better collaboration.
